Poor House IV

Poor House, Haiti

In 2009, I made a series of visits to the town of Bonneau in Northern Haiti to visit what locals called “the poor house.” It was a social welfare project established by the Haitian government in the 1940s, a cluster of buildings meant to house indigent seniors. Today it has fallen into disrepair and has lost its funding, save for small assistance from a few NGOs and the Catholic church. A handful of homeless men still live there.
